Soprano Ellen Hargis will give three recitals with lutenist Paul O’Dette for the San Francisco Early Music Society in Palo Alto, Berkeley, and San Francisco on Sept. 10, 11, and 12. The program, titled “Wait! I’m Singing Now…,” will feature music of Strozzi, Kapsberger, Scarlatti, Cesti, and Piccinini. SFCV asked Hargis about her love of early music, the challenges of balancing singing and teaching, and what it’s like to work as an early-music star in a modern world.
IN 2010-2011, CLARION MUSIC SOCIETY MAKES ITS LINCOLN CENTER DEBUT AND SPOTLIGHTS TWO PILLARS OF THE BAROQUE AGE
The Clarion Music Society is pleased to announce its concert season for 2010-2011: five concerts featuring the Clarion Orchestra, the Clarion Choir, and distinguished soloists, conducted by artistic director Steven Fox. Prominent this season are works of the two most renowned pillars of the Baroque Age, J.S. Bach and G. F. Handel, the latter of whom will be the subject of our fourth annual Clarion Collegium Week.
Music of Mattheson and Fischer with the Koelner Akademie, Byzantine chant with John Michael Boyer, and Paul O’Dette performs lute pieces by Marco dall’Aquila.
The German period instrument orchestra known as the Koelner Akademie has been recording world-premieres since its inception. Led by American conductor Michael Alexander Willens, the Akademie has been a champion of famous and little-known composers whose music remains continues to remain relevant.
