These are 24-bit and at whatever sampling frequency (44.1 kHz, 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz) was used by the recording engineer at the time of recording (hence 'Studio Master'). These files are anything up to five times the size of their 16-bit 44.1 kHz equivalents and are more expensive. You should check the documentation of your playback equipment for compatibility with higher bit-rates and frequencies; most of our newest albums offer sample tracks for you to download and test free of charge. …” as well as new titles released this month.

BIS's Boss Robert von Bahr:
This is a very, very special release. The release date coincides with the passing of exactly one year since the terrible disaster in Japan. It was Masaaki Suzuki's idea to release this compilation in order to give solace to the victims of this disaster - the music has been especially chosen for this purpose, including some newly recorded material - and also to contribute to their physical well-being: all the royalties are going to the Tohoku Relief Foundation and BIS are matching that, penny for penny.

“Bach's St. John Passion is one of the masterworks of the choral repertory, but it took time for it to be acknowledged as the masterpiece it truly is. It was re-discovered after Mendelssohn's performance of the St. Matthew Passion in 1829 had stunned the music world, awakening it to the superlative quality of Bach's vocal music, and, at the same time, creating an upsurge in the performance of choral music in general, which continues to this day. This recording of the St. John Passion by the Bach Choir of Bethlehem – America's oldest Bach society -- is an acknowledgement of an important part of its history.
A little late, but … if you can still catch this sale event and are interested in any of the sale items … the sale ends by the end-of-day midnight EST February 29th. There are early music titles available that may be of interest.

“As Mignarda, we typically perform music for voice and lute from the 16th century, an enterprise that keeps us busy enough. But it turns out that our musical tastes do extend to the repertory of 19th century 'heart songs' or, the better-known descriptor, parlor songs.

“BIS's Boss Robert von Bahr:
It is hard to sit and write texts about certain SACD:s without succumbing to ridiculous boasting, and this is one case in point. The very fact that we have asked Ronald Brautigan to record Complete Mozart (10 CD:s), Complete Haydn (16) and the Mozart Concerti (ongoing),
“La Catena d'Adone
La Catena d'Adone, first performed on 12 February 1626, presents the characteristics of the genre.
