“Mary Ann Kennedy explores the rich folk traditions of Quebec at the annual Chants de Vielles Festival in the tiny village of Calixa La Vallée. Its main stage, set up in a barn, hosts a performance by star a cappella group Les Charbonniers d'Enfer; Les Chauffeurs a Pied play for a barn dance; and trio Serre l'Ecoute lead the audience in some rousing anti-English songs from the eighteenth century.
  

December 2-5 2011, church squares of Alcantara, Bacabeira and San Luis, Maranhão, become the stage for music and dance of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
  

BEMF is delighted to present the Birmingham début of this award-winning Hyperion-label ensemble (Binchois Consort), and of its director, Andrew Kirkman, who takes over as Barber Professor of Music in Autumn 2012. This newly-devised programme is inspired by the beautiful Midlands alabaster sculpture in the Barber Institute, ‘The Coronation of the Virgin’. Fashioned from stone quarried in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, the sculptures functioned as the focus of religious devotion, the power of the prayers often being enhanced by being set to glorious music.

The Lufthansa Festival can go by in a bit of a blur, it has to be admitted. We spend a year getting ready for those eight busy days, and by the time they come around I'm already having to think hard about what to put on next year.
  

“Sorry for my tardiness on getting this summary out! There was some great stuff at BLEMF this year, here’s a summary of all the exciting things that happened over those five days!

“Each quarter, we offer a weekend course or Baroque music and dance revival, for anyone interested in music and dances of the Baroque era. You can participate in one or more weekend (s), each stage being independent of others.“

Bloomington, IN - August 1 - 5, 2011 (Monday - Friday)

“The International Natural Trumpet Making workshop, which has been held each year since 1993, in Bloomington, Indiana, and in various European locations, will be offered again during the week of August 1 - 5, 2011 at the Workshop of Seraphnoff Historical Instruments in Bloomington, Indiana.
  

“Imagine a romanesque Church, lost in the fields at the end of an unpaved road. You walk in, sit down and the lights dim, leaving you in candlelight. The music starts. This is the experience we invite you to come discover, where you can hear early music, performed in the spirit of the period in which it was composed, on original instruments or copies.
   

“This course is meant especially for professional musicians, music teachers, students and all music-makers who wish to widen their experience. You will receive much information on stylistic features, as well as advice on technical problems. Chamber music, Orchestra, lectures and concerts in the wonderful hall of the baroque castle of Zell/Pram.

“The Centro Studi e Ricerche Santa Giacinta Marescotti, a non-profit association of the town of Vignanello, promoting the third edition of the International Competition Prince Francesco Maria Ruspoli, with the Artistic Direction of M° Sergio Casoy for the Lirycal Singing Section and Prof. Georgio Monari as Scientific Director for the Musicological Section.
  

The Western Baroque Music Festival will be held in Seattle, Washington August 7-13, 2011. The festival begins with a faculty concert at St. James Cathedral in downtown Seattle at 8 pm Sunday, August 7 and continues throughout the week with classes ending with a student concert on Saturday.
