"... Unprecedented in its scale, the Rameau Project is surveying all relevant musical, literary and archival sources pertaining to the conception, performance and reception of Rameau's operas. Their musico-historical contexts are being investigated for the rich possibilities they present for interdisciplinary study in areas of philosophy, literature, politics and history.
Jonathan Williams and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) are engaging in empirical research, undertaking comprehensive practice-led explorations of the operas' distinctive technical, artistic and aesthetic challenges, and of Rameau's highly idiosyncratic performance practices, in particular. Dance troupes are being trained by Edith Lalonger in historically-informed choreography seldom seen in productions today, with the aim of restoring the expressive power and dramatic thrust of Rameau's dance music. ..."
