For the first time, an organiser has dared to draw theological, dramaturgical and compositional lay lines between Bach’s great oratorical works in the programme of a festival. The Christmas Oratorio, the St. John Passion and the Easter and Ascension Oratorios form together a grand oratorio project which must have been a highlight in the musical life of Leipzig in 1734/1735. On a total of three concert evenings, these scenes from the vita Christi will be presented in Bach’s unique musical realization. “In a musical career spanning over four decades Michael Howard influenced many hundreds of musicians, both amateur and professional. He holds a significant place in the history of the twentieth century revival of interest in pre-Baroque music.

Michael Howard was born in 1922 the son of Frank Howard a distinguished viola player who had been a founding member of Beecham's Philharmonic orchestra and player in Andre Mangeot's International String Quartet. His lifelong love of steam traction was sparked by the family home's proximity to the GWR ("God's Wonderful Railway") and to Walpole Park in Ealing which was used by the travelling fairgrounds. …

How will this affect you?

For most of the visitors to this site, you will not see any apparent differences except for perhaps some speed increase in the way the pages are served to you and perhaps some new options on some pages. However, most of the updates/upgrades are necessary for administrative purposes.

NOTE: At some point during the update period, the website will be offline until all of the updates are properly installed and the data properly migrated. If the site is offline, you will be greeted with a message warning you of such. The email service to admin will NOT be unaffected during the update process and your messages will still be queued up for review/posting.
