"In celebration of her remarkable tenure, Jeanne is selecting her favourite repertoire from 33 seasons at Tafelmusik, weaving together a tapestry of her fondest musical memories. To honour Jeanne, musicians from the orchestra will write “goodbye gifts” of newly-composed pieces based on variations on Purcell movements (including a Hornpipe from Abdelazar, Fairest Isle from King Arthur & Chaconny in g). And there will be an audience-choice portion of the concert, pre-selected by you! Not to be missed."

"Did you know that Handel’s Messiah, which we think of as "a Christmas tradition", was originally written for Easter? On April 13, 2014, the NBBP Orchestra & Singers will present this glorious masterpiece as it was heard 272 years ago (to the day!) at its premiere in Dublin on April 13, 1742.

Come hear the very best of early music players and singers right here in KW. As usual we will be playing on period instruments with the sound and energized style of historically-inspired performers.

"Isabel Bayrakdarian joins Tafelmusik for a concert of music written for the famous “rival queens” of 18th-century London: baroque era superstar sopranos Faustina Bordoni and Francesca Cuzzoni. Their rivalry inspired riots at the opera house, and their behaviour so enraged Handel that he threatened to dangle one of them out a window! We will try to avoid such extremes, but look forward to hearing the stunning Isabel Bayrakdarian perform arias penned for these original prima donnas by Handel, Hasse, and Bononcini."

"Over the next couple of weeks London experiences some trouble with its tube network but Handel House will remain open for visitors and concert-goers.

The first event in February starts this evening with our annual Stanley Sadie Memorial Lecture taking place at the Royal Over-Seas League. We are delighted to have Handel scholar Ellen Harris who has travelled from the US for this event and she will explore the subject of Handel’s Mayfair neighbours.
 
February marks a special anniversary: Handel’s birthday. We celebrate with free admission to the museum so pop in and listen to musicians playing the harpsichord and catch the last day of exhibition The Triumph of Music Over Time where you will be able to hear the final chimes of a Clay Clock. ...
