"La Trobe University closed its Music Department at the end of 1999. This site has not been updated since February 2004. A new and updated version of the Medieval Music Database is currently under construction and should be available early in 2008: in the meantime we welcome your comments, corrections and additions.
The main features of the new version are a much expanded repertoire of works in addition to the melodic incipits of liturgical works. Four complete manuscripts, a gradual and three antiphonals, have been added. Browse by Liturgical Feast is entirely new. This displays the melodic incipit of each liturgical chant for each feast, analyses related melodies and displays colour images of source manuscripts. The Browse by Composers, by Genre and by Manuscripts remain the same as they were is the earlier versions. " ...

Welcome to the Mutopia Project ... a place where music is free for everyone! Download it, print it out, and share it. Mutopia is similar in spirit to Project Gutenberg, but consists of free sheet music.
Broadly speaking, copyright on a creative work expires 70 years after the creator's death. This means that the works of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and many other composers are in the public domain - in principle, they may be copied and performed without restriction.
However, you may not normally copy or perform a sheet music edition which you can buy, because an editor also has a copyright on the edition, and an arranger may have, too. " ...Added on: Oct 31, 2005 | Hits: 408
"Saraband Music is located in Kilcoy, QLD, Australia. Saraband Music began in 1994, selling sheet music and facsimiles, strings and CDs. Publishing began in 1996. In 2004, the business changed to mainly publishing, and the string business was sold to Ian Watchorn in Melbourne. From 2007, Saraband Music continued to publish early music under both the Saraband and Hammer & Tongs Reproductions imprints, and introduced a new range of music and interesting products for customers, including antiquarian maps and cards. A private collection of old books, including many first editions is also being sold.
Saraband Music is owned by Patrice Connelly, who has the degree of M.Mus (Hons) from the University of Sydney. She plays and teaches viola da gamba, and has edited music for viols published by Dovehouse Editions (Canada), PRB Productions (California) and the Viola da Gamba Society of Great Britain, and written articles and reviews for a number of journals. Her early musical studies were undertaken at the Conservatorium High School in Sydney, before progressing to the Music Department at the University of Sydney. She began playing piano at the age of 8, and violin at age 12. During her B.Mus, she also played viola before giving up both violin and viola for the viola da gamba. "Bärenreiter is one of the largest publishers of classical music worldwide.
Its extensive publication programme encompasses not only standard concert repertoire, but also educational music, contemporary music as well as music books.
From the beginning Bärenreiter has been working towards clear goals: to make a significant contribution to musical culture and to preserve the heritage of European music. So how did Bärenreiter set about to achieve these goals? It was Karl Vötterle's ingenious idea to create the concept of the New Complete Editions. He embarked upon an ambitious project to collect and publish the entire output of numerous composers, keeping to their original intentions.
Bärenreiter has been a pioneer in the publication of new scholarly Editions. Through the New Complete Editions Bärenreiter sets the musical standards for others to follow. In order to make these standards accessible to all practising musicians, without compromising the high quality musicological content, Bärenreiter publishes a comprehensive range of Practical Urtext Editions. "Founded by Bernhard Christoph Breitkopf (1695-1777) in Leipzig. The firm initially devoted itself exclusively to the printing of books. Later Breitkopf purchased the "Golden Bear House" near the Thomaskirche and the Nicolaikirche. Its heraldic animal still embellishes the publisher's mark to this day.
Gottfried Christoph Härtel takes over the publishing house (1795) (since then: " Breitkopf & Härtel"). Subsequently, close editorial collaboration with Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Liszt, Wagner and Brahms. " See website for more information. (ed.)

“Before starting with this database, I had indices of only a few manuscripts and a whole series of concordances lying scattered around. Then Markus Lutz sent around his compilation of Weiss' works with concordances, with the request to check the concordances, and the spark was generated to put some system in the information I had lying around, using Markus' info as the starting point, amplifying the project to other non-Weiss manuscripts. First of all, I chose a manuscript-based setup, and for each manuscript in my possession I listed the contents, along with the key in which the pieces were given. Where present, the manuscript-own page numbering was followed, while for others and ad-hoc numbering was applied. ..“
