(UK) Fortune Books Newsrelease: "The Sultan's Organ The diary of Thomas Dallam 1599" Put Into Modern English by John Mole
A Musician's Travel blog - Four hundred years old
London 24 September 2012
Fortune Books announce the publication of The Sultan's Organ, the personal diary of organ builder Thomas Dallam. In 1599 he took a self-playing organ from London to Constantinople – now Istanbul – as a present from Queen Elizabeth I to the Sultan of Turkey. He played his virginals to various audiences en route and the organ to the Sultan himself. When best-selling travel author John Mole came across the diary in its original Elizabethan English he was so enthralled that he knew it deserved a wider audience. He put it into modern English so it reads as if its author were alive today

“CFP: A-R Editions
A-R Editions seeks proposals for editions of music to be included in the seven Recent Researches in Music series (Middle Ages and Early Renaissance, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries, American Music, and Oral Traditions). Each edition is usually devoted to works by a single composer or to a single genre of composition and contains an introduction to the music and its historical context, a critical report, and translations of vocal texts.
A-R Editions also seeks proposals for editions of music to be included in the Collegium Musicum: Yale University series. The Castrato and His Wife, Helen Berry
“The opera singer Giusto Ferdinando Tenducci was one of the most famous celebrities of the eighteenth century. Mozart and Bach both composed for him. He was nothing less than a rock star of his day, with a massive female following. He was also a castrato.
Ranging from the salons of princes and the grand opera houses of Europe to the remote hill towns of Tuscany, Helen Berry's compelling account of the unconventional love story of the castrato and his wife offers fascinating insight into the world of opera and the history of sex and marriage in Georgian Britain. Berry vividly describes how women flocked to Tenducci's concerts and found him irresistible. Indeed, his young singing pupil, Dorothea Maunsell, found him so irresistible that she eloped with him. A huge scandal erupted and her father persecuted them mercilessly.”
