On May 17th, bringing the fourth annual Clarion Collegium Week to a dramatic conclusion, the Clarion Orchestra and Clarion Choir under the direction of Steven Fox will perform George Frideric Handel’s monumental oratorio Judas Maccabeus, at Park Avenue Christian Church, Park Avenue at 85th Street, at 8:00pm.

Written five years after Messiah, this three-part oratorio tells the story of the great Judean freedom fighter in a rich, emotional journey from grief and hopelessness to the dream of peace and to triumph.  This masterpiece will be performed on period instruments by renowned specialists in Baroque performance practice and featuring a stellar cast that includes soprano Anna Dennis as the Israelitish Woman, mezzo soprano Silvie Jensen as the Israelitish Man, Canadian countertenor Daniel Taylor as the Priest, tenor Steven Caldicott Wilson as Judas, and bass Jesse Blumberg as Simon.

A pre-concert lecture will be given by Handelian scholar Dr. Mark Risinger at 7:00.
