Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and John Blow’s Venus and Adonis
“The highlight of the festival is the Summer Festival Opera, a double bill of two Baroque masterpieces, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and John Blow’s Venus and Adonis on 17 / 18 / 19 June in The Barber Institute of Fine Arts. With a twist to the production, these operas are set at the outbreak and close of the Second World War. Please see the opera press release attached for more details.

Most people learn to play recorders pitched in C - usually the descant - but other members of the family, the treble, bass and tiny sopranino recorder, are pitched in F. Rae Strong’s accessible course will help you make the transition and have fun while you’re doing it. It will cover everything from basic note learning to ensemble playing, so that you’ll emerge from your stay at Benslow an altogether more versatile player.
