"Francesca Thompson has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician with many distinguished groups, including The Bach Players, the Fitzwilliam Quartet and the Endymion Ensemble, the last of whom she performed and recorded with for the BBC Proms. She has performed in Cadogan Hall, the Purcell Room, on Dutch, German, Polish and Swiss radio, on BBC Radio 3 and 4, in Amsterdam’s Bachzaal, at Krakow Early Music Festival, Davos Festival in Switzerland, Amherst Early Music Festival in the U.S.A., the London Handel Festival and St. James, Piccadilly, and as a soloist with the festival orchestra of the Internationale Bachakademie at the Europaisches Musikfest Stuttgart. This summer she was invited to perform an evening of concertos with members of Capella Cracoviensis at the ‘Music in Ancient Krakow’ Festival in Poland, which was received with great critical acclaim.

With her chamber ensemble La Follia, Francesca has performed throughout the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, including engagements at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, the London Handel Festival, the Utrecht Early Music Festival Fringe, Musica Antiqua Festival in Brugge, and the Telemann Festtage in Magdeburg, Germany. "Alfred Zachertz received his first recorder lessons in his hometown Limbach-Oberfrohna. Aged nine, he learned to play the violin. After having studied the viola at the Hochschule für Musik Leipzig with Professor Arnold Matz, he was engaged as solo violist at the state orchestra Leipzig. During this period, through studies with Gudrun Berger, Zachertz could distinguish himself on the recorder, thus making it his main instrument. "Nina Stern is one of North America’s leading performers of the recorder and classical clarinet. In recent years she is also hailed as an innovator in teaching school-age children to be fine young musicians. A native New Yorker, Ms. Stern studied with Jeanette van Wingerden and Hans-Rudolf Stalder at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, where she received a Soloist’s Degree. From Basel, she moved to Milan, Italy where she was offered a teaching position at the Civica Scuola di Musica. "Annette Bauer, a native of Germany, studied medieval and renaissance music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, specializing on recorder techniques with Conrad Steinmann (2001). She holds an MA in music from UC Santa Cruz (2004), and has been a student at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California since 1998, where she studies North Indian classical music on sarode, a stringed instrument. As a recorder player, Annette regularly performs with Baroque ensemble Les graces, Istanpitta medieval music ensemble, Farallon recorder consort, and has appeared at the Santa Cruz Baroque and the Carmel Bach Festivals, as well as with Texas Early Music Project, Chamber Music San Francisco, the Catacoustic Consort, and the California Bach Society. She has served on the recorder faculty for several of the San Francisco Early Music Society summer workshops, Amherst Early Music Festival, as well as for the Texas Fall Toot, and the San Francisco Orff Certification Course. Annette currently also teaches music at a K-8 school in Oakland, CA, and regularly conducts recorder workshops and classes in medieval notation in the San Francisco Bay Area. (US) Rio Grande Recorders

The Rio Grande Recorders are a  group of music enthusiasts in the Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX areas, who get together several times a month to play a wide variety of music. Our main meeting is o­n the second Thursday of every month at Good Samaritan Village in Las Cruces—entrance o­n Buena Vida—from 7:00-9:00 PM.

We are a chapter of the American Recorder Society .  Performances include music from the renaissance and baroque periods, as well as a variety of other music.

Chapter activities include:

  • Semi-monthly meetings/rehearsals, where we play music including rennaissance, baroque, and a variety of other types of music.
  • Concerts throughout the year, including performances at the Good Samaritan Society and Las Cruces RenFaire in November. 
  • Bi-annual week-end early music workshop for recorders and violas de gamba, featuring classes from professional, nationally-known musicians.

"Desert Pipes is the Phoenix Chapter of the ARS. We currently have around two dozen members of all ages. Chapter activities include monthly meetings and rehearsals. We also sponsor workshops given by leading recorder teachers including the Farallon Quartet, Letitia Berlin, Vicki Boeckman, and the Wood 'n' Flutes trio. (The school no longer exists, although its affiliate still does. I usually omit the school name.) Kay has coached recorder ensembles--including mixed ensembles of voice, instruments, and recorders--since 1994. She has directed the Redding Chapter of the American Recorder Society since 2005. "A chapter of the national organization, the American Recorder Society, the San Diego County Recorder Society (SDCRS) has been in existence since 1972. A membership organization, SDCRS supports the recreational playing and performance of recorders and other early music instruments.

SDCRS meets monthly to play ensemble music from medieval to 20th century with professional conductors. Our monthly chapter meetings are held in the afternoon on the third Saturday (usually) of the month from September through June.

“The North Queensland Recorder Society was established in 1995 to bring together all recorder players in the Townsville and wider North Queensland region for skills development (through workshops, etc) and social playing.

Its large-group activities have settled into a pattern of about four 'Playdays' - themed Sunday afternoon playing sessions - each year plus an annual weekend residential workshop with an out-of-town tutor. Guest tutors for the workshops have included Zana Clarke, Genevieve Lacey, Peter Madge, Jessica Shaw, Rodney Waterman and Ruth Wilkinson.
