Contributed by Admin on Dec 02, 2011 - 11:00 PM

After the success of last season's King Arthur, and following its exploration of the English lyrical repertoire, the Ensemble Jacques Moderne suggests another masterpiece from Purcell: Dido and Aeneas.

Composed in 1689 at the Boarding School for Girls, in Chelsea, this work can be considered the most celebrated work of this English baroque composer.

Wonderful masterpiece for its dramatic effectiveness, the intensity of portrayed emotions and the high quality of his music, Purcell, with a libretto by Nahum Tate, will deploy his talent for comedy and drama throughout this opera. It is considered the only true opera throughout the work of Purcell.
