"We are excited to announce that Bach Collegium San Diego was recently awarded a grant by the National Endowment for the Arts!

The award of $10,000 will be used, in their words, "to support historically informed concerts and related educational activities. Plans include ...

performances of music found in Latin American cathedral archives and Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers. The archive program will feature music from colonial Latin America, including works by native composers alongside Spanish cathedral music sent to the continent. The program will explore the nexus between the musical languages of Spain and the New World. For the Monteverdi Vespers, professional singers will be paired with college music majors for rehearsals and performances. Brass ensemble Tesserae will join the collegium's period instrument orchestra for the performance. Lectures and demonstrations will support both programs."

"Receiving support from the National Endowment for the Arts is an exciting milestone for Bach Collegium San Diego, as it brings to the organization national recognition after more than a decade of hard work," said Music Director Ruben Valenzuela. "This award will specifically support two of our upcoming exciting programs: An Empire of Silver and Gold in March, and our performances of Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers in May. We are thrilled to be partnering with the NEA on two such diverse projects that will surely enrich the arts community here in San Diego."

We are very grateful to the National Endowment for the Arts for their support, and to our many patrons and supporters who have helped us reach this point! Thank you!
