"Culture has been hit with a headline 9.5% cut in the Scottish government's draft budget, published in Edinburgh on December 16.

Overall, Scottish Government is reducing spend on culture in 2016/17 from £170.2 million to £154.1 million.

As part of this, the five directly funded national companies, ...

including the National Theatre of Scotland, Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera, are all to receive 3% less than in the current year.

The NTS said in a statement: "While it is appropriate that all Scottish Government funded organisations should assume a share of reductions in an era of diminished public spending, even a 3% cut has a major impact on the National Theatre of Scotland’s operating budgets. ..."
