Organizers of the event are harpsichordist Jillon Stoppels Dupree; organist/harpsichordist Barbara King; David Dahl, Director of Music Ministries at Christ Episcopal Church, Tacoma; and Kathryn Habedank, Director of Early Music Concerts at Pacific Lutheran University. We hope you will plan to join us; mark your calendars now!
September 19 events will be at Christ Episcopal Church, 310 North K Street, Tacoma. Saturday’s schedule will feature Jordi Verges-Riart from Spain and Fabio Ciofini from Italy. Their presentations will include speaking about the 1750 Italian meantone temperament organ housed at Christ Episcopal Church plus a demonstration of Italian and Spanish repertoire (some four-hand) and continuo examples. Saturday afternoon will feature Dr. Janet Pollack of Colorado State University with a session on the early English keyboard publication, Parthenia (c.1611), with virginal demonstrations; this will be followed by a builders’ symposium. Verges-Riart and Ciofini will conclude the day with an evening four-hand concert on the John Brombaugh organ.
September 20 events will feature a visit to the Paul Fritts’ Organ Shop near Pacific Lutheran University, Mike Reiter’s Broadwood and Streicher pianos with fortepianist Tamara Friedman, and a faculty Early Music Concert: “Music in the Age of Thomas Jefferson.”
The conference schedule will be full but will allow time for exploring the available instruments and socializing. Please note unforeseen events might cause a change in the schedule.
