(CA) TafelmusiK Concert: "The Rival Queens with Isabel Bayrakdarian" (9, 10, 12, 13 Apr 2014)

Contributed by admin on Mar 26, 2014

Location: Koerner Hall, Toronto Ontario, CA

"Isabel Bayrakdarian joins Tafelmusik for a concert of music written for the famous “rival queens” of 18th-century London: baroque era superstar sopranos Faustina Bordoni and Francesca Cuzzoni. Their rivalry inspired riots at the opera house, and their behaviour so enraged Handel that he threatened to dangle one of them out a window! We will try to avoid such extremes, but look forward to hearing the stunning Isabel Bayrakdarian perform arias penned for these original prima donnas by Handel, Hasse, and Bononcini."
