The start of June brings with it some great new releases from a wide variety of labels. Two releases of note come on the Glossa label; A release of Vivaldi arias by Robert Invernizzi, and Paolo Pandolfo playing gamba works of De Machy. Also on Glossa is a new recording of Montevrdi's Il Ritorno D'Ulisse in Patria. On the Coro label, there is a new collaboration between The Sixteen and the Hilliard Ensemble of Manuscripts from the British Library, and is not to be missed! Keeping in the theme of choral music, there is a new release on the Phaia label of Tudor Church Music, and on the Signum Label of a new work; Patrick Hawes' Lazarus Requiem. “The big O - symbol of the 2012 Poiesis Festival and of the great Opera - includes four musical events prepared by Marco Mencoboni for Friday 25 May, the opening day the of the 6th edition. The festival will start with a short prelude: 30 musicians, located in surprising spots, will play together when the bell of the square in Fabriano will toll. But the main show will be Ad Vesperas, an impressive vocal and instrumental music concert featuring Claudio Merulo's posthumous masses for 12 voices, brought back to life after four centuries of oblivion by the Cantar Lontano ensemble in the beautiful setting of the Fabriano cathedral. Works by Orlando di Lasso and Diego Ortiz will follow, in a polyphonic triumph made possible by 30 musicians conducted by Marco Mencoboni. Background
“The International Young Artist's Presentation (IYAP) is an ideal platform for young, talented ensembles. IYAP focuses on young vocal and instrumental ensembles playing historical instruments. The coaching sessions - led by the American soprano Jill Feldman! - are an essential part of IYAP. After the coaching, the ensembles will perform at historical locations in Antwerp during the festival Laus Polyphoniae. During these concerts a lot of Belgian and international organizers will be present. They will give the ensembles tips for their future career. Afterwards, the selected ensembles will be promoted by the IYAP-organizers. And they will be honoured with the title "IYAP Selected Promising Ensemble 2012".“
