(DE) Mozarfest Würzburg (Mozart Festival Würzburg)

“It´s not just wine lovers who flock to Würzburg, but also lovers of classical music.

For 90 years Germany´s oldest Mozart festival has taken place in the Würzburg Residence. Founded only one year after the "Salzburger Festspiele" the Mozart Festival Würzburg has a long tradition and is one of the leading music festivals in Germany. For four weeks thousands of visitors from Germany and all over the world enjoy the intimate festival atmosphere and the unique architecture of the Würzburg Residenz in 50 classical concerts. During 85 years of the Mozart festival history many internationally renowned artists such as Alfred Brendel, Philippe Herreweghe, Christopher Hogwood, Gidon Kremer, Lorin Maazel, Sir Neville Marriner, Waltraud Meier, Yehudi Menuhin, Trevor Pinnock and Jukka-Pekka Saraste have been on stage.

Actually, Mozart had actually no personal association to Würzburg. It all began with an evening of music in the year 1921 at the grand Imperial Hall in the Würzburg Residence. At the end of the evening, the conductor, Hermann Zilcher, overwhelmed by the ornate stucco and lavish surroundings said "I only needed to trace a certain piece of ornamentation with my baton in the air, and that was enough for a union between sound, architecture and colour". Such a profound inspiration could not just be passed up. It soon led to the foundation of the Mozart Music Festival.“

(DE) Stiftung Kloster Michaelstein Summer Academy for Early Music

July 14 – 19, 2008 "In preparation for Haydn Year 2009, this year's Summer Academy focuses on small and large scale instrumental works by the genius and his contemporaries. From the single Sonata for Piano and Violin, the solo concertos to one of the late symphonies, the unbelievably colourful creations of themaster offer a wealth of material. A programme for the official closing concert with chamber and orchestral music will be prepared during the course week. There will also be dance training and training in body posture; this will provide an enriching element to the course by improving understanding of Haydn's music as well as the ability to cope with instrumental challenges. ...

The Summer Academy is a forum for Early Music and historical instruments. It provides musicians already experienced with historical instruments, conservatory students, professional musicians, advanced lay musicians, and pre-formed ensembles the opportunity to meet each other and share ideas and experiences. Equally welcome are musicians who have so far only played modern instruments and now want to tap into the stylistic insights of the historical performance practice movement in order to enhance their everyday musical lives. This course provides the ideal environment for doing this in a focused and meaningful way. ..." Visit the Stiftung Kloster Michaelstein website for more information. (ed.)

(ES) Aula de Música Antiga (AMA) / Early Music Academy at the Girona Conservatory

“The Aula offers an introduction to early music for any students curious about original instruments or interested in developing their knowledge of early repertoire. It also brushes up on basic theory and provides excellent preparation for further study.

Eligible students will be those with existing musical qualifications, or those who have already completed three years of the standard “Aula Course”. The Open Course offers theoretical and instrumental classes, renaissance polyphony workshops, chamber music and improvisation. 2010 also sees the introduction of Renaissance and Baroque Dance to the curriculum.

Each Open Course is one year long and takes place over six weekends. It is split into individual and group instrumental lessons and is interspersed with theory sessions. At the end of the course, students who have attended the sessions regularly will be awarded a Participation Diploma. Students who completed the full three years of the Aula Course beforehand will receive a Graduation Diploma certified by the “Aula de Música Antiga”.

The Open Course at the “Aula De Música Antiga” can be followed as an optional subject forming part of the Professional Degree syllabus (equivalent to a Bachelor Degree). This option is available to both members of the Conservatoire and to students from other institutions (in accordance with the accreditation procedures laid out by the Catalan Government's Sub-Directorate General for Artistic Teaching).

The “Aula de Música Antiga” provides a stimulating environment in which to study the beautiful, fascinating, yet often neglected early repertoire. Teachers can share their ideas and students can develop their knowledge in a school situated in one of Europe's most picturesque and cultured cities.“

(FR) The Festival of Sacred and Baroque Music at Froville

“The Froville priory, built in 1080, is one of the first settlements the benedictine monks of Cluny established in Lorraine. Its steeple dominates a small village, home of 120 inhabitants, midway between Nancy and Epinal.

The romanesque nave, inherited from the 11th century, is lengthened by a gothic choir and a magnificent cloister dating from the 13th century and of which several windows are exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

The nave's ceiling of Carolingian origin has been restored exactly according to historical and acoustic tradition. Therefore, the Froville church provides a prestigious arena for the mightiest voices during the festival of sacred and baroque music.

The Association of the friends Frovilles cultural patrimony has shown great dedication for animation and promotion this prestigious site since 1997 through especially organisation the festival of sacred and baroque music and the priory's 3D reconstitution project.

Its ambition is revealed in a fondatory text, "Odouin's choice".
