"Formed around 1983-5 (historians disagree on the exact birthdate) in the front room of a house in Linden Gardens, Chiswick, (London) it combined the talents of advanced music students, young professionals and talented amateurs. Many of the original members now have prominent careers in the early music field and some are still playing with the band.
It was the only 'original instrument' orchestra at that time in Europe to offer the opportunity of amateurs and professionals playing together; the newly emerging Early Music field.
Linden Baroque still provides very useful experience for many types of player; the advanced baroque instrument student, the 'modern instrument' professional player making the transition to the baroque playing style, young professionals gaining experience 'between jobs' and talented dilettantes. We always play under an established leader and continuo player and many well-known professionals happily give up their time to perform with Linden Baroque. The mixture of personnel within the band ensures that its spirited performances are always of high quality, the core members ensuring Linden keeps its distinctive voice. ..."

"The 18th Century Concert Orchestra communicates the brilliance and drama of baroque music, combining period instruments, candlelight and resplendent 18th-century attire to present a uniquely atmospheric recreation of 18th-century musical life.
A typical evening: the scene is set by the dedicated Master of Candles, providing illumination before the musicians appear in their strikingly colourful costumes. "The Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Barcelona (OCBBA) was created in 2010 with the aim of disseminating and retrieving pieces from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Its members, mostly living in Catalonia, are musicians who specialize in historical interpretation. The repertoire performed both opera and instrumental religious is large.

“Declared “unquestionably in the top-tier of Renaissance vocal ensembles in the Northeast” by Boston Musical Intelligencer and hailed for its “stunningly unified ensemble sound” by The Carlisle Mosquito, Exsultemus [ek-sul-TAY-mus] was founded in 2003 to explore remarkable but seldom-performed Renaissance and Baroque vocal works, taking advantage of the multitude of fine soloists in the Boston area and making use of the most recent research into historically-informed performance. Exsultemus has performed more than three dozen original programs, from liturgical reconstructions of Renaissance Vespers services to Telemann’s St. John Passion of 1737. Taking its name from the Latin for “let us rejoice,” Exsultemus is modeled after small estate and chapel choirs with musicians performing one on a part and without conductor, working rather as a chamber ensemble than a traditional choir and offering audiences vibrant and engaging performances.
Since its founding by soprano and Andover native Shannon Canavin, Exsultemus has presented an annual concert series at the First Lutheran Church of Boston, where it is Ensemble-in-Residence, and in various locations throughout Greater Boston, as well as appearances in Germany and Belgium. Exsultemus dedicates an annual concert to music of the Iberian Peninsula and the New World that include free community outreach concerts. Their 2011 collaboration with Newton Baroque to present Georg Philipp Telemann’s 1726 liturgical cantata cycle Harmonischer Gottesdienst was hailed by the Boston Globe as “especially welcome” and heralded by the Boston Musical Intelligencer as “an intimate and joyful musical experience.” Exsultemus has appeared with Connecticut Early Music Festival, Society for Historically Informed Performance, Clark Art Institute, WHRB, WGBH, and WCRB, and was featured on audio tours at the Wadsworth Atheneum (Worcester, MA) and the Folger Shakespeare Library (Washington, DC).”

“Now in its fifth decade, the Toronto Chamber Choir holds a place of prominence in the early music scene. Mark Vuorinen, now entering his fourth season as Music Director, is one of Canada’s rising choral conductors, with more than ten years of experience conducting professional and amateur singers. He follows David Fallis, the choir’s Music Director Laureate, an expert in early music who led the choir for more than two decades.
The choir distinguishes itself by its presentation of large-scale, often little-known, works of the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, performed in authentic style. In 2007, we performed the Requiem by Francesco Cavalli,
a work rarely heard in Canada. A performance of the 40-voice motet Spem in Alium by Thomas Tallis was a fitting choice for celebrating our 40th anniversary in 2008. In 2010, we sang Media Vita by John Sheppard, an English composer who deserves to be heard more often. On Good Friday in 2010, we performed the profound Passion oratorio Membra Jesu Nostri by Buxtehude. Mark Vuorinen said, “This piece is comprised of seven discrete cantatas, each a meditation on a part of Christ’s crucified body. For the sixth cantata, a meditation on the heart, Buxtehude replaces the violins with a consort of five viols, a most extraordinary timbral effect!” In the spring of 2011, the choir presented a concert of music by Josquin des Prez, arguably the most famous composer during his own lifetime. “Emerging in the early 1980s as a grass-roots cooperative of musicians, the [Portland Baroque Orchestra (PBO)] orchestra has matured as a polished, professional organization with a loyal and committed audience that now numbers some 1000 subscription ticket holders and 1100 single-ticket purchasers. “Barokkanerne is an all-Norwegian baroque orchestra, consisting of Oslo-based, young professional musicians, all with recognized special skills within the field of Early Music. The ensemble was established in 1989, and gives concerts both as a full orchestra and as smaller chamber-music groups. Venues have included the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Oslo International Church Music Festival, broadcasts on the NRK radio and television network (the Norwegian Broadcasting Company), and tours abroad, including most recently concerts in Israel and Lithuania.
In 2006 Barokkanerne performed with Det Norske Solistkor in the world premiere of Lasse Thoresen’s Ut Unum Sint, which was written specifically for this orchestra.
Barokkanerne’s activities have traditionally included performances of music for choir, soloists and orchestra, such as Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, the St John and St Matthew Passions by Bach, Monteverdi’s Vespers, and Handel’s Messiah.
During recent years Barokkanerne has begun to draw a wide audience as a purely instrumental ensemble. The increased level of skill, artistry and enthusiasm amongst its members has spurred the orchestra to aim for more independent tasks.”

“A baroque orchestra? Yes. But more importantly - an orchestra in a baroque manner. That means an orchestra searching for more than just performing in a historically informed fashion the pieces that were written 300 years ago. That means an orchestra with a truly baroque approach to music making. That means an orchestra for which the score, the treatises and the instruments are merely a pretext for artistic experiments; for long journeys that lead to the unknown; for creating rather than re-creating!
AdS gives on average nearly one hundred concerts a year, performing in various settings and instrumental combinations. “Taking its inspiration from Les Nations, a work by François Couperin symbolising the coming together of musical tastes and heralding a “European artistic space” which, far from being a recent invention, bears all the hallmarks of the Age of Enlightenment, Le Concert des Nations, the youngest of the ensembles directed by Jordi Savall, was founded in 1989. Created during the preparation of the Canticum Beatae Virgine by Charpentier, this group arose out of the need for an orchestra of period instruments that could play the orchestral and symphonic repertoire from the Baroque to the Romantic periods (1600-1850).
