“The Colorado Recorder Orchestra was formed in summer 2004, and had its debut performance at the Early Music Colorado “Fall Festival of Early Music” in October, 2004. In 2005 and 2006 there have been many performances in the Denver area and surrounding communities, and an appearance at the EMC “Fall Festival of Early Music” in October 2005.

The orchestra was organized by leaders from three Colorado chapters of the American Recorder Society who have formed the governing board for the orchestra. The goal was to provide a challenging musical adventure for more advanced recorder players. When first organized, the ensemble was called, “Front Range Recorder Orchestra.” This has been changed to Colorado Recorder Orchestra, since it is the only one in the state. The director of the Colorado Recorder Orchestra is Rose Marie Terada. The group is made up of volunteers. Players, board members, and the director all volunteer their time for the recorder orchestra. ..“

“Born in Amsterdam in 1957, Peter Holtslag studied recorder at the Conservatorium of his native town, graduating ‚cum laude‘ in 1980, his leading sources of inspiration being Frans Brüggen and Kees Boeke. From then onwards he has toured worldwide as a recorder and transverse flute player.

A distinguished soloist and chamber musician, playing both "early" and contemporary music, he shared the concert platform with musicians such as Gustav Leonhardt, William Christie, Roy Goodman and ensembles such as The English Concert, The Orchestra of the 18th Century, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, La Fontegara Amsterdam, Trio Noname and recorded for radiostations all over the globe ( ABC Sydney, National Radio USA, WDR Köln, NOS Holland, New Zealand Radio, BBC London etc ). "Helen Hooker studied the recorder at Trinity College of Music under Philip Thorby, graduating in 1993 with a first class degree and the Post-Graduate Certificate in performance with distinction. She now combines performing on the recorder with teaching the instrument.

Helen regularly teaches on residential courses for players of all ages, including the Recorder Summer School, of which she is Chairman. Helen has also tutored on the Northern Recorder Course and the Irish Recorder and Viol Course. She directed recorder courses at The Old Rectory, Fittleworth from 1998 until the College closed in 2002 and now directs weekend recorder courses at West Dean College. Helen also tutors on weekend recorder courses at Dillington House in Somerset and Belstead House in Suffolk.

"Desert Pipes is the Phoenix Chapter of the ARS. We currently have around two dozen members of all ages. Chapter activities include monthly meetings and rehearsals. We also sponsor workshops given by leading recorder teachers including the Farallon Quartet, Letitia Berlin, Vicki Boeckman, and the Wood 'n' Flutes trio. "In January 1981 the Manchester Recorder orchestra was founded by Dennis Bamforth, and this year we are Celebrating 25 years. Rehearsal is normally last saturday in each month (see members information page for details). Players are mainly from the Greater Manchester conurbation but as many as a fifth of the sixty plus players travel long distances to take part. The instrumentation of the group is 2 Sopraninos, 8 Descants, 12 Trebles, 12 Tenors, 12 Basses, 10 Great Basses and 6 Contra Basses. The descants, trebles and tenors are further divided into two sections each; basses are also divided occasionally. Each section has a principal, responsible for any solo work that comes along. Since 1982 the Orchestra has given regular public concerts. In 1986 we gave our first of the annual concerts at the Royal Northern College of Music. There is a policy of playing by invitation at various other venues. These have included concerts in Bradford, Buxton, Coventry, Stretford, Manchester Cathedral, Salvation Army Church at Sale, and for the Heptonstall Festival of Music. The orchestra also gives an annual concert in Stretford in St Matthew's Hall which is our rehearsal venue. Each year a further concert is given for a charitable fund. ... " The Society of Recorder Players was inaugurated on 7 October 1937 by Max and Stephanie Champion together with Carl Dolmetsch and Edgar Hunt. It was at first London based although there were groups meeting at all sorts of strange places around the country. After the War the branch system started and first off the ground was Manchester, when on 10 June 1947 Professor Ross Waller and Rev. F. F. Rigby met with about 50 enthusiastic players at Holly Royde College, an outpost of Manchester University Extra-mural Department. Ross Waller was elected President, Mr. Rigby chairman, Richard Hall Musical Director and Miss Edith Middleton was the first secretary. The first playing meeting was held at Holly Royde on 12 Sept.1947 So we are now 50 year's old, rather to our surprise we have to confess! In fact we are indebted to Miss Enid Hunt who mentioned in a recent letter that Bristol branch were celebrating their 50th birthday next February and that we had just beaten them to it. "Brisk gave its first concert in the Bachzaal in Amsterdam in 1986. The ensemble has been active ever since then, and thus became the quartet of renown which it is now. "A chapter of the national organization, the American Recorder Society, the San Diego County Recorder Society (SDCRS) has been in existence since 1972. A membership organization, SDCRS supports the recreational playing and performance of recorders and other early music instruments.

SDCRS meets monthly to play ensemble music from medieval to 20th century with professional conductors. Our monthly chapter meetings are held in the afternoon on the third Saturday (usually) of the month from September through June.

Férdia gained a doctorate, entitled Musical Meaning and the Resonance of the Material, from the University of Cambridge (funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board). The Ensemble MEZZALUNA was founded in 2003 as a logical consequence of many years of musicological and organological co-operation between the Belgian recorder player Peter van Heyghen and the English recorder maker Adrian Brown. Their collaboration reached a climax in 2003, when both were asked to present papers at the "International Symposium on the Renaissance Flute and Recorder", organised by the Dutch musicological organisation STIMU. Both considered it a priority to present their ideas through a musical collaboration and thus the idea of MEZZALUNA was born.

The composition of the ensemble, depending on the programme, typically consists of three to six experienced instrumentalists from Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Austria. Their aim is to interpret polyphonic music composed between ca. 1480 and ca. 1630 using historically documented performance practice.
