"Alfred Zachertz received his first recorder lessons in his hometown Limbach-Oberfrohna. Aged nine, he learned to play the violin. After having studied the viola at the Hochschule für Musik Leipzig with Professor Arnold Matz, he was engaged as solo violist at the state orchestra Leipzig. During this period, through studies with Gudrun Berger, Zachertz could distinguish himself on the recorder, thus making it his main instrument.
