(ES) Aula de Música Antiga (AMA) / Early Music Academy at the Girona Conservatory

“The Aula offers an introduction to early music for any students curious about original instruments or interested in developing their knowledge of early repertoire. It also brushes up on basic theory and provides excellent preparation for further study.

Eligible students will be those with existing musical qualifications, or those who have already completed three years of the standard “Aula Course”. The Open Course offers theoretical and instrumental classes, renaissance polyphony workshops, chamber music and improvisation. 2010 also sees the introduction of Renaissance and Baroque Dance to the curriculum.

Each Open Course is one year long and takes place over six weekends. It is split into individual and group instrumental lessons and is interspersed with theory sessions. At the end of the course, students who have attended the sessions regularly will be awarded a Participation Diploma. Students who completed the full three years of the Aula Course beforehand will receive a Graduation Diploma certified by the “Aula de Música Antiga”.

The Open Course at the “Aula De Música Antiga” can be followed as an optional subject forming part of the Professional Degree syllabus (equivalent to a Bachelor Degree). This option is available to both members of the Conservatoire and to students from other institutions (in accordance with the accreditation procedures laid out by the Catalan Government's Sub-Directorate General for Artistic Teaching).

The “Aula de Música Antiga” provides a stimulating environment in which to study the beautiful, fascinating, yet often neglected early repertoire. Teachers can share their ideas and students can develop their knowledge in a school situated in one of Europe's most picturesque and cultured cities.“
