News Release
A Musician's Travel blog - Four hundred years old
London 24 September 2012

Fortune Books announce the publication of The Sultan's Organ, the personal diary of organ builder Thomas Dallam. In 1599 he took a self-playing organ from London to Constantinople – now Istanbul – as a present from Queen Elizabeth I to the Sultan of Turkey. He played his virginals to various audiences en route and the organ to the Sultan himself. When best-selling travel author John Mole came across the diary in its original Elizabethan English he was so enthralled that he knew it deserved a wider audience. He put it into modern English so it reads as if its author were alive today
