News of Sagittarius’ busy August schedule. Sagittarius, the resident vocal ensemble since 2000 at the Citadelle in Blaye, near Bordeaux:

  • 23 August (8h10) -- Michel Laplénie interview on France Musique’s “Musique Matin” -- release date of Sagittarius’ latest recording dedicated to J-H Schein (Hortus)
  • 27 August -- Sagittarius and the Choir Dordogne en Sinfonia concert: “Musikalische Exequien and escerpts Geistliche Chormusik by Schütz 
  • 30, 31 August and 1st September -- “Fontana D’Amore”, Sagittarius organize a tour around the release of its latest recording.

Toronto, July 3, 2012 … Under the artistic leadership of David Fallis, the Toronto Consort celebrates its 40th anniversary season in 2012-13 with a line-up of outstanding period music programs. To mark this milestone, the Toronto Consort will bring Janet Cardiff’s award-winning sound installation FORTY-PART MOTET to Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in September 2012. The ensemble will also release two albums on the Marquis label: a new recording of its popular program, A Spanish Christmas, and Never love thee more, a two-CD anthology of Renaissance music. The 40th anniversary season includes The Tudors, Praetorius Mass for Christmas Morning, The Loves of Apollo and Daphne by Francesco Cavalli, the renowned soprano Dame Emma Kirkby in recital with lutenist Jakob Lindberg, and The Consort’s own multi-media concert, A Woman’s Life.  2012-13 subscriptions are available through the box office at (416) 964-6337. If you are planning on attending the Boston Early Music Festival 2013 (yes, that is for next year!), you may want to purchase your tickets to one of the event dates of the BEMF production of Handel’s Almira. Ticket sales for the main events at the BEMF generally sell quite well.

The historical town of Trevi nel Lazio (province of Frosinone), in the charming, unspoilt upper valley of the Aniene river, hosts the first edition of TREBANTIQUA, International Early Music Season (June 16 – August 18 2012). This first edition presents 6 concerts of high musical standards, with performers from Italy, Europe and the United States. All concerts are free of charge; 4 of them will be hosted in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, making use of the impressive, XVII cent. Bonifazi organ, and the remaining 2 in the beautiful Caetani Castle, where also a little archaeological museum can be visited.

THE TUDOR CHOIR CELEBRATES ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY with a five-concert subscription series of four concerts at historic Blessed Sacrament Church in Seattle's University District, where the choir is a resident ensemble, and a Thanksgiving weekend concert at Town Hall. Concert programming will include Tallis' 40-part Spem in alium and Allegri's legendary Miserere, as well as the choir's annual Christmas concert, this year with brass quintet, at the end of December. In the cozy and beautiful environment of the Church of Santa Barbara dei Librai in Rome a reconstruction of a XVII century mass celebration, based on Frescobaldi’s Messa della Madonna and coeval vocal music, in the perfect style of period religious rites.

Nell'affascinante e raccolto ambiente della Chiesa di Santa Barbara dei Librai, nel cuore di Roma, una ricostruzione idealizzata di una celebrazione liturgica dei primi anni del XVII secolo, basata sulla Messa della Madonna di Girolamo Frescobaldi (tratta dai suoi Fiori Musicali), sommo organista ferrarese trapiantato ed attivo a Roma a cavallo tra il XVI e il XVII secolo, e su musiche vocali coeve. Organo e voci si alternano nel puntualizzare i vari momenti della celebrazione nello stile dell'epoca, quando la musica costituiva l'unico contatto tra celebrante e fedeli nei riti delle varie cappelle musicali romane.
