An Introduction to Baroque Dance Rhythms Workshop

San Francisco Renaissance Voices is delighted to host the internationally-renowned dance scholar, performer and teacher of Baroque dance, Philippa Waite for a Baroque Dance Workshop.  Ms. Waite studied with Wendy Hilton and taught for her at the annual Baroque Music and Dance Workshops at Stanford University.  Ms. Waite is currently guest teacher of Period Movement and Dance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Cardiff, and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.  She is Artistic Director of Consort de Danse Baroque and as such choreographs in the Baroque style for the company's productions; she also teaches, performs and gives lecture-demonstrations throughout the UK and abroad.

“The International “Recitar Cantando”Week will take place simultaneously with the 7th International Early Music Course “Ottaviano Alberti”. Teachers Marco Beasley and Guido Morini will offer an intensive workshop on Italian music from 1500 to 1650. “The Handel Festival has been held in Halle since 1922. It all began with new productions of Handel’s operas and these still form the backbone of the festival programme of today. Every year, the Handel Festival and the Halle Opera House produce one of the numerous Handel operas.  Of the 42 operas by Handel which have come down to us, 40 of them have been performend at the Handel Festival to date. This is a unique record, inrivalled anywhere in the world. The Handel Festival Orchestra Halle first distinguished itself as a Braoque ensemble performing on period instruments for the very special task of  accompanying Handel operas in Halle in 1993.
    

Sunday concerts -- concert goers are totally immersed in "embar(o)quement music. Saturday "discoveries" with activities for the "curious" or for those who wish to be initiated to the universe of the Baroque. If you are in the area, you may want to consider reading the concert/events listings planned for this early music festival in the region of Valenciennes (FR), they both look quite appealing.

“The 13th International Festival of Spanish Keyboard Music FIMTE 2012 will be held in Mojácar and Garrucha, Almería, Andalusia, 11 to 14 October 2012, The festival will feature both mainstream and fringe concerts, an international symposium on Antonio Soler keyboard works and a workshop on performance-related issues with Luisa Morales.”
         

“Summer School of Early Music is an Early Music course targeting the historically informed performance mainly of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Music. Some of the recorder classes concentrate on contemporary, world and folk music.

The workshop takes place every July in beautiful South Bohemian town Prachatice (130 km south from Prague, 200 km north-west from Vienna). In 2012 we will be there for the 14th time, until 1998 the course took place in Bechyně.
        

“On 14-19 August 2012, Chalemie will hold its 14th Summer School in Early Music, Dance, Period Costume Making and Commedia. Leading performers from the group will direct a series of workshops on 17th/18th century music, song, dance, commedia and costume making, with a particular emphasis on the English repertoire of this period.

This master class is aimed at experienced singers and musicians and existing ensembles who wish to improve their knowledge and practice of Western Medieval music. The individual classes and group workshops have been designed to extend the scope of their research and preparation in order to enhance their future artistic achievements. Participants will have free access to a talk on the history of music from the period. Each participant will be given a kit including an introduction to the theme, sheet music and facsimiles of the selected works, copies of articles and a bibliography.

16th International Medieval Music and Dance Course
(based on the “the Sea” and medieval and traditional
dances and music about the Seas and Oceans)

Aims
The course will set out to stage a musical and theatrical adaptation of medieval and traditionnal music and dances about Seas and Oceans. Each participant will receive a kit including an outline of the story, sheet music and facsimiles of the selected compositions, articles and a bibliography.

The educational purpose of the course is to make present-day musicians more aware of the various forms and functions of the religious, popular and courtly music of the Middle Ages, helping them to bring their own musical contribution to a group endeavour.

Participants will be encouraged to discover or develop their vocal, instrumental and dance skills, on the basis of their personal knowledge and interests, in the various workshops on offer. Modern as well as traditional instruments are welcome.
